On June 1, 2025, a peaceful demonstration in Boulder, Colorado, advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, was violently disrupted. The event, organized by the "Run for Their Lives" group, took place at the Pearl Street Mall and aimed to raise awareness about the hostages' plight.
During the rally, 45-year-old Mohamed Sabry Soliman allegedly attacked participants using a makeshift flamethrower and incendiary devices, reportedly shouting "Free Palestine" and other anti-Zionist slogans. The assault resulted in injuries to six individuals, aged between 67 and 88, including an 88-year-old Holocaust survivor. Two victims were airlifted to a specialized burn unit in Aurora due to the severity of their injuries.
Authorities arrested Soliman at the scene. The FBI is investigating the incident as a targeted act of terrorism, citing ideological motivations. This attack has intensified concerns about rising antisemitic violence in the United States, especially amid ongoing tensions related to the Israel-Gaza conflict.
Community leaders and officials, including Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Attorney General Phil Weiser, have condemned the attack, emphasizing the need to address hate crimes and ensure the safety of all community members.
As investigations continue, the Boulder community remains resilient, with many expressing solidarity with the victims and reaffirming their commitment to peaceful advocacy and unity.
